LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD

FISCAL NOTE, 86TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 10, 2019

TO:
Honorable Dan Huberty, Chair, House Committee on Public Education

FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director     Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director
Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB692 by White (Relating to the suspension of a student who is homeless from public school.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would prohibit school officials from placing a homeless student in out-of-school suspension.

It is assumed that the requirements of the bill could be absorbed using existing resources.

Local Government Impact

To the extent that school districts and charter schools are required to provide disciplinary alternatives to homeless students who otherwise would have been subject to out-of-school suspension, some school districts and charter schools could see some increased costs.
