LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 86TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 12, 2019

TO:
Honorable Jeff Leach, Chair, House Committee on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence

FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director     Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director
Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB900 by Israel (Relating to the act of smoking tobacco in a vehicle with a child present; authorizing an additional fine for certain criminal offenses.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

It is assumed that the provisions of the bill could be absorbed using existing resources.

Local Government Impact

The cost to bring a civil case would greatly exceed the $15 civil fine. Therefore, there would be a fiscal impact from HB 900, as introduced, however, since it is not known how often these cases would occur, the extent of that impact cannot be estimated at this time.
