Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 86TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 30, 2019

TO:
Honorable Harold V. Dutton, Jr., Chair, House Committee on Juvenile Justice & Family Issues

FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director     Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director
Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB922 by Krause (Relating to a divorce on the ground of insupportability.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Family Code to allow a court to grant a divorce, without regard to fault, only if both parties in the marriage agree that the marriage has become insupportable because of discord and there is no reasonable expectation of reconciliation. Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished using existing resources.

The bill would take effect on September 1, 2019.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
