IN RE:
HB974 by Metcalf (Relating to public school safety measures and procedures.), As Engrossed
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Under the bill, a person would have to show a picture ID when visiting a school and verify whether he or she was a registered sex offender. The bill would also require that school safety be incorporated into training that is required for independent school district trustees. The training curriculum and materials would be developed by the State Board of Education, in conjunction with the Texas School Safety Center.
This analysis assumes that the School Safety Center and the Texas Education Agency could absorb any additional duties using existing resources.
Local Government Impact
The bill could increase costs for some school districts by requiring photo ID and sex offender status checks for visitors.
