Honorable Dan Huberty, Chair, House Committee on Public Education
FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB974 by Metcalf (Relating to public school safety measures and procedures.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
It is assumed that the provisions of the bill relating to public school safety could be absorbed using existing resources.
Local Government Impact
The bill would require school districts and junior colleges to conduct school safety and security audits once every two years, instead of every three years. The bill would also require a school district to require that a person show a picture ID when visiting a school and verify whether a person visiting a school is a registered sex offender.
The bill could increase costs for school districts and junior colleges by increasing the frequency of security audits. The bill could also increase costs for some school districts by requiring photo ID and sex offender status checks for visitors.
