No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Government Code to expand the jurisdiction of constitutional county courts and justice courts by raising the jurisdictional cap in civil cases from $10,000 to $20,000. Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished using existing resources.
The bill would take effect on September 1, 2019.
