IN RE:
HB1186 by Kuempel (Relating to the prizes awarded in certain pull-tab bingo games.), As Introduced
The introduction of a new form of bingo with higher possible jackpot prizes could increase player attendance and participation in bingo establishments. However, there is no available data to determine the impact this may have on prize fee collections or other bingo-related revenues or on revenue associated with state lottery games.
The bill would amend Chapter 2001 of the Occupations Code, regarding bingo, to authorize bingo operators to offer a new style of pull-tab bingo referred to as "carryover pull-tab bingo," and would limit jackpot prizes awarded in these games to not more than $10,000.
The bill would take effect immediately upon enactment, assuming it received the requisite two-thirds majority votes in both houses of the Legislature. Otherwise, it would take effect September 1, 2019.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
