FISCAL NOTE, 86TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION
Revision 1

March 25, 2019

TO:
Honorable Nicole Collier, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence

FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director     Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director
Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1319 by Moody (Relating to a procedure in a justice or municipal court for rendering certain judgments and sentences.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to allow that a criminal action is considered adjudicated for appeals purposes and the sentence is considered rendered in fine-only misdemeanor cases in which the defendant pled guilty or no contest. Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, it is assumed that duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
