IN RE:
HB1383 by Lozano (Relating to exemption of certain firefighters and police officers from jury service.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code to add police officers, including police chiefs, and firefighters, including fire chiefs, to the list of persons eligible to claim an exemption from jury service. The bill requires that the person be a permanent, paid employee of a fire department or police department of a municipality or county. Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished using existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
