HB1637 by Miller (Relating to required training regarding trauma-informed care for certain judges and attorneys.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code and the Human Resources Code to require any attorney representing the state in a suit seeking the termination of the parent-child relationship or the appointment of a conservator for the child; judge of a court with jurisdiction over a suit affecting the parent-child relationship; associate judge appointed to hear a child protection case; and attorney who represents the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) to complete a training program regarding trauma-informed care and the effect of trauma on children in the conservatorship of DFPS.
 
Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration and DFPS, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished using existing resources.
 
The bill would take effect September 1, 2019.
