FISCAL NOTE, 86TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 27, 2019

TO:
Honorable Poncho Nevárez, Chair, House Committee on Homeland Security & Public Safety

FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director     Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director
Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1908 by Moody (relating to the indigent status of a person for purposes of the driver responsibility program.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the courts to notify the Department of Public Safety (DPS) as soon as practicable after the court has determined a person in the Driver Responsibility Program is indigent and cannot pay their surcharge. DPS indicates that the bill would require the agency to modify the Driver License System to include new reporting fields. LBB analysis of DPS indicates that these activities could be completed with existing resources.

Local Government Impact

The Office of Court Administration indicates that no significant fiscal impact to local courts is anticipated.
