IN RE:
HB1986 by Leman (relating to the compatibility of a high-speed rail facility with multiple types of train technology.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend Subchapter B, Chapter 112 of the Transportation Code to require a private entity that constructs a high-speed passenger rail service facility to ensure that the facility complies with certain federal regulations for the type of rail facility and is compatible with train technology that exists and does not interfere with the use of other rail facilities or train technology that exist at the time construction begins. The bill would require the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to adopt rules to implement as necessary to implement the requirements.
Based on LBB staff analysis of the information provided by TxDOT, it is assumed any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.
Local Government Impact
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
