March 12, 2019

TO:
Honorable Dan Huberty, Chair, House Committee on Public Education

FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director     Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director
Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2074 by Wu (Relating to prohibiting a public school counselor from being required to act in a disciplinary capacity in certain circumstances.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

The bill would prohibit school counselors from being required to serve in a disciplinary role at the school. To the extent that school counselors currently serve in a disciplinary role at a campus, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) assumes school districts and charter schools may incur costs to make changes in staffing assignments to comply with this legislation.
