LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 86TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 19, 2019

TO:
Honorable Chris Turner, Chair, House Committee on Higher Education

FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director     Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director
Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2140 by Neave (Relating to creating an electronic application system for state student financial assistance.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Higher Education Coordinating Board to create an electronic application system that would allow a person to complete and submit the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TAFSA) through the agency's Internet website. This analysis assumes that any costs for the Higher Education Coordinating Board to implement the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within current resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
