IN RE:
HB2158 by White (relating to the availability of peer support services in facilities operated by or under contract with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

The fiscal implications of the bill cannot be determined at this time due to the unknown size of the service population.

The bill would amend the Government Code to direct the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) to increase the availability of certain peer support services to offenders incarcerated in TDCJ facilities, as it relates to certain programs and services for offenders and state jail felony defendants, including the availability of peer support services. According to TDCJ, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
