No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure as it relates to community supervision for certain defendants who leave the scene of a motor vehicle accident. The bill would also impose a minimum length of confinement as a condition of community supervision for certain defendants. This analysis assumes the provisions of the bill addressing felony sanctions would not result in a significant impact on the demand for state correctional resources. According to the Office of Court Administration (OCA) and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, any additional costs associated with the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing recourses. The bill would take effect September 1, 2019.
Local Government Impact
According to the OCA, local governments may have a fiscal impact due to increased jail costs; however; OCA assumes that these instances will be rare. Therefore, no significant fiscal impact to local government is anticipated.
