No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Government Code to require the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's Community Justice Assistance Division (CJAD) to report certain information on felony defendants placed on community supervision. The bill would permit CJAD to provide technical assistance to certain counties. The bill would also require CJAD to give priority to certain local Community Supervision and Corrections Departments when awarding grants. According to TDCJ, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources. The bill would take effect September 1, 2019.
