FISCAL NOTE, 86TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 20, 2019

TO:
Honorable James White, Chair, House Committee on Corrections

FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director     Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director
Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2623 by White (Relating to the requirements for a change of name for a person with a final felony conviction or a person required to register as a sex offender.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Family Code to provide additional options for the courts to order certain name changes if a person is requesting a change that will reflect the primary name used in the person's criminal record.

Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration and Department of Criminal Justice, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources. This analysis also assumes the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant impact on state correctional populations or on the demand for state correctional resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
