Honorable Chris Turner, Chair, House Committee on Higher Education
FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB2718 by Turner, Chris (Relating to authorizing an increase in the student union fee at The University of Texas at Arlington.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Education Code to allow the board of regents of The University of Texas System to levy a student union fee not to exceed $150 per student for each regular semester and $75 for each summer session, for the sole purpose of financing, constructing, operating, maintaining, and improving the Student Union Building for The University of Texas at Arlington. Under provisions of the bill, the fee may not be increased unless it is approved by a majority vote of those students participating in a general election. The University of Texas System reports that if the fee were increased to the maximum amount allowed by this bill, the increase would be $6 million annually.
Local Government Impact
No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
