IN RE:
HB2769 by Ortega (relating to the authorization by referendum on an optional county fee on vehicle registration in certain counties.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Transportation Code to allow additional counties to increase an existing optional fee on vehicle registration.
According to the Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV), the bill would not require additional programming costs as counties currently revise local fees each year and programming is already in place in the Registration and Title System and the TxIRP system to accommodate for the annual fee changes in optional county fees.
Local Government Impact
According to TxDMV, additional revenue collections from the bill in El Paso County could start January 1, 2020 under the assumption that the commissioners court could pass a resolution, hold the required referendum election, and notify the department by September 1st to begin charging the fee in calendar year 2020.
If approved in El Paso County, a total of $33,172,150 in local revenue would be generated over the FY 2020-2024 period:
