LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 86TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 29, 2019

TO:
Honorable Senfronia Thompson, Chair, House Committee on Public Health

FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director     Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director
Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB2873 by Davis, Yvonne (Relating to the room placement of individuals with Alzheimer's disease or dementia in health care facilities and correctional facilities.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Health and Human Services Commission, the Department of Criminal Justice, and the Commission on Jail Standards to adopt rules relating to health care facilities, jails, and other correctional facilities. The rules would ensure that a person residing in these facilities with Alzheimer's disease or dementia would not reside in the same room with an individual with mental illness and a history of violence. The agencies indicate they could absorb the costs associated with the bill within current resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
