According to analysis provided by the Comptroller of Public Accounts, under current law, a person who holds a Class A, B, C, or commercial driver's license may be authorized to operate a moped. There is a fee of $8 for this moped authorization. The bill would eliminate the requirement for a license holder who wishes to operate a moped (but not a motorcycle) to obtain this authorization. Information from the Texas Department of Public Safety indicates this would impact approximately 7,000 license holders.
Of the $8 authorization fee, currently $3 goes to Texas Mobility Fund 0365 and $5 goes to GR Account 0501 - Motorcycle Education.
