IN RE:
HB3610 by Walle (Relating to local control of the employment matters of officers of the sheriff's department in certain counties.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
This bill would amend the Local Government Code to authorize certain counties to create a "meet and confer team" consisting of members representing the sheriff's officer employee groups in the county. This team would represent the county sheriff's officers and negotiate with the county to seek agreement on concerns of the officers regarding their terms of employment. The bill would include a procedure for the calling of an election that would authorize the meet and confer team as the exclusive bargaining agent for all the sheriff's officers employed by the county. The bill provides that a county cannot prevent automatic payroll deductions for dues paid to a sheriff's officer employee group.
According to the Secretary of State (SOS), the bill would have no significant fiscal impact. The office would be able to update advisory and training materials using existing resources.
Local Government Impact
According to SOS, the bill would have no significant fiscal impact to units of local government.
