No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to allow a judge to order a defendant to make a specified donation to a non-profit organization that supports drug courts in the community where the defendant resides instead of requiring the defendant to complete community service hours.
Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished using existing resources.
The bill would take effect September 1, 2019.
