No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to provide that a defendant under community supervision may donate to a charitable organization primarily performing charitable functions for defendants under community supervision or veterans in the county where the defendant resides in lieu of working community service hours or participating in a community service project.
Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished using existing resources.
The bill would take effect September 1, 2019.
