LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 86TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 31, 2019

TO:
Honorable Joan Huffman, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director     Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director
Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB205 by Perry (Relating to the use of information from the lists of noncitizens excused or disqualified from jury service.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Based on analysis by the Secretary of State, the provisions of the bill relating to noncitizen voter registration would result in one-time technology implementation costs and ongoing maintenance costs. Furthermore, analysis by the Office of the Attorney General indicates that additional full-time equivalent employees would be required to conduct investigations required by the provisions of the bill. Based on this analysis, and the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, it is assumed that any costs associated with the provisions of the bill could be absorbed using existing state resources.

Local Government Impact

Based on analysis by the Secretary of State, no significant fiscal implication to units of local government due to modification of jury forms is anticipated.
