April 22, 2019

TO:
Honorable Larry Taylor, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:

Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB232 by Menéndez (Relating to parental notification by a school district regarding high school graduation requirements.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

The bill would amend the Education Code to require school districts to notify, by regular mail and by e-mail, the parent of or other person standing in parental relation to each high school student regarding the exclusion of Algebra II from graduation requirements and the potential consequences of not completing an Algebra II course. The Texas Education Agency assumes districts would incur some costs to create and mail the notification letters.
