FISCAL NOTE, 86TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 26, 2019

TO:
Honorable Larry Taylor, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director     Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director
Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB232 by Menéndez (Relating to parental notification by a school district regarding high school graduation requirements.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

The bill would amend the Education Code to require school districts to notify, by regular mail or by e-mail, the parent of or other person standing in parental relation to each high school student regarding the exclusion of Algebra II from graduation requirements and the potential consequences of not completing an Algebra II course. This analysis assumes that district costs from creating and mailing the notification letters could be offset with the option to use e-mail instead.
