No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Under the provisions of the bill, the Texas A&M University System may impose an intercollegiate athletics fee on students at Texas A&M University - San Antonio. The amount is not to exceed $10 per semester credit hour for each regular semester or summer session, unless an increase in the fee is approved by a majority vote of the students participating in a general election. A student enrolled in more than 12 semester credit hours would pay the same amount imposed on a student enrolled in 12 semester credit hours. According to the Texas A&M University System, this fee would generate an estimated $4.6 million in fiscal year 2020, $4.7 million in fiscal year 2021, $4.9 million in fiscal year 2022, $5.0 million in fiscal year 2023, and $5.2 million in fiscal year 2024.
