SB405 by Birdwell (Relating to the criminal offense of making a false report to a peace officer, federal special investigator, law enforcement employee, corrections officer, or jailer.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Penal Code to extend an existing offense concerning false statements to certain law enforcement employees to include correctional officers and jailers.  An offense under this bill would be a Class B misdemeanor.

According to the Office of Court Administration (OCA), while this bill expands a criminal offense, any increase in workload is anticipated to be handled with existing resources. Therefore, no significant fiscal impact to the state court system is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

According to OCA, while this bill expands a criminal offense, any increase in workload is anticipated to be handled with existing resources. Therefore, no significant fiscal impact to local courts is anticipated.

According to the Texas Association of Counties, no significant impact to counties is anticipated.
