Honorable Dan Patrick, Lieutenant Governor, Senate
FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
SB820 by Nelson (Relating to a requirement that a school district adopt a cybersecurity policy.), As Passed 2nd House
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
It is assumed that the provisions of the bill relating to a requirement that a school district adopt a cybersecurity policy could be absorbed using existing resources.
Local Government Impact
The bill would require districts to designate a cybersecurity coordinator and report to TEA any cyber-attack or other cybersecurity incident as soon as practicable upon discovery of the attack or incident. The bill could result in increased costs for districts to the extent that they do not already have personnel serving similar functions.
