No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend sections 552.117(a) and 552.1175 of the Government Code and section 25.025(a) of the Tax Code to include current or former child protection caseworkers or investigators employed by the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) and current or former child protection caseworkers or investigators employed by a DFPS contractor performing child protection work to the list of persons whose personal information is excepted from disclosure under the Public Information Act if the employee elects to maintain confidentiality of that information and notifies the governmental body of that choice.
The amendments to the Government and Tax Code would be applicable to requests for information received by the governmental agency after the effective date of the bill.
The bill would take effect immediately if it receives two thirds vote in each house; otherwise effective on September 1, 2019.
DFPS indicates it could absorb the costs associated with the bill within its current resources.
