FISCAL NOTE, 86TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 24, 2019

TO:
Honorable Joan Huffman, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs

FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director     Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director
Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1570 by Flores (Relating to the effect of certain felony convictions of certain corrections employees.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code to make correctional officers at the Department of Criminal Justice and the Juvenile Justice Department ineligible for their monthly retirement benefits if they are convicted of certain qualifying felonies that arises from the individual's service as a corrections officer. While the number of employees that would be affected by this bill is indeterminable, it is assumed that the provisions of the bill could be absorbed using existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
