No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Education Code and the Health and Safety Code related to medical and dental clinical education in public and nonprofit hospitals. The bill would amend the Health and Safety Code to clarify the definition of a nonprofit hospital for purposes of extending limitations on liability and including nonprofit hospitals in coordinated or cooperative clinical education.
The bill would amend the Education Code to add the University of Houston College of Medicine, The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine, and The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler to the medical and dental units defined in Chapter 61 of the Education Code.
The provisions of the bill that would provide limitations on liability to interns, residents, fellows, faculty members, and other associated health care professionals or employees of a medical and dental unit participating in medical education at a public or nonprofit hospital would result in no significant fiscal impact, based on information provided by The University of Texas System, the Higher Education Coordinating Board, and the University of Houston System.
