IN RE:
SB1774 by Bettencourt (Relating to uncollectible fees and costs in criminal actions and proceedings.), As Engrossed
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would repeal Article 103.0081(c) within the Code of Criminal Procedure to permit all criminal courts to designate costs and fees as uncollectable if the defendant is deceased or serving a life sentence or if the cost or fee has remained unpaid for at least 15 years. Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.
