IN RE:
SB1834 by Alvarado (Relating to a study and pilot program regarding the use of incentives to purchase certain fruits or vegetables under the supplemental nutrition assistance program.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Chapter 33 of the Human Resources Code to require the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to establish a pilot program to incentivize the purchase of certain fruits and vegetables under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and form a work group to provide input. The bill would require HHSC, in consultation with the work group, to conduct a study on programs that provide incentives for the purchase of certain fruits and vegetables and submit a report. The bill would allow HHSC to delay operation of the pilot program until federal or other funding is received or appropriated to the agency for the program. Based on the LBB's analysis of HHSC, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
