CRIMINAL JUSTICE IMPACT STATEMENT

86TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

February 27, 2019

TO:
Honorable James White, Chair, House Committee on Corrections

FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director     Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director
Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB155 by Canales (Relating to notice provided to a court regarding a defendant confined in a state jail felony facility.), As Introduced

The provisions of the bill addressed by this analysis would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to specify the requirement that, for any defendant received into a state jail felony facility, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice shall notify the sentencing court of the date by which the defendant will have served 75 days.

This analysis assumes the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant impact on the state correctional populations or on the demand for state correctional resources.
