March 18, 2019

TO:
Honorable James White, Chair, House Committee on Corrections

FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director     Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director
Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB374 by Allen (relating to meetings or visits between a defendant on community supervision and a supervision officer.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

The provisions of the bill addressed by this analysis would amend the Government Code as it relates to a community supervision and corrections department policy regarding supervision officer meetings and visits. Under the provisions of the bill, a community supervision and corrections department would be required to adopt a policy regarding supervision officer meetings and visits.

This analysis assumes the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant impact on state correctional populations or the demand for state correctional resources. The bill does not expressly create a criminal offense, increase the punishment for an existing criminal offense or category of offenses, or change the eligibility of a person for community supervision, parole, or mandatory supervision.
