86TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 6, 2019

TO:
Honorable James White, Chair, House Committee on Corrections

FROM:
John McGeady, Assistant Director     Sarah Keyton, Assistant Director
Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB659 by White (Relating to the collection of information regarding the parental status of inmates of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.), As Introduced

The provisions of the bill addressed by this analysis would amend the Government Code as it relates to the collection of information regarding the parental status of incarcerated individuals of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). Under the provisions of the bill, TDCJ would be required to maintain, update, and report to certain state agencies annually the number of confined individuals who are parents.

This analysis assumes the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant impact on state correctional populations or on the demand for state correctional resources.
