Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Mass Violence Prevention & Community Safety, Select was held on Monday, October 21, 2019, at The University of Texas at El Paso, El Paso, Texas.

Senator Zaffirini, the acting chair, called the meeting to order at 2:03 PM (MDT). There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

 

The chair made opening remarks and recognized Senator Rodriguez for an introductory statement.

 

The chair called the following panels to provide invited testimony (see attached witness list).

 

At 3:05 PM (MDT), Senator Huffman, chair, assumed the presiding duties.

 

The following witnesses testified and registered on the following interim charge (see attached witness list):

Learn firsthand, the personal, family, and community impact of mass shootings in Texas by hearing from victims of mass violence in Dallas, Santa Fe, Sutherland Springs, El Paso, and Midland/Odessa. Conduct hearings in Austin, El Paso, and the Midland/Odessa area to meet with victims and their families in those communities.

 

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

There being no further business, at 8:38 PM (MDT) Senator Huffman moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
