Judith Mary Pickle Lancaster |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Judith Mary Pickle Lancaster, who died |
|
March 17, 2021, at the age of 102; and |
|
WHEREAS, Judith Lancaster was born on March 6, 1919; she |
|
grew up in Big Spring, where she was named Most Popular Girl in |
|
her 1936 graduating class at Big Spring High School; she went on |
|
to earn a degree from The University of Texas at Austin; and |
|
WHEREAS, After her graduation, she worked on the war effort |
|
in West Texas, and she married Jonathan Lancaster in 1943; their |
|
children, Diantha Alspaugh, Meredith Lancaster, and David |
|
Lancaster, were a source of much pride and joy for her, and she |
|
was blessed with seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, |
|
and a great-great-grandchild; and |
|
WHEREAS, Once Judith's children reached school age, she |
|
began a fulfilling, 30-year career as a teacher; after her |
|
retirement in 1982, she and Jonathan moved to Austin and were |
|
active in a wide range of area organizations, including Meals On |
|
Wheels, the First United Methodist Church, and the LAMP program |
|
at The University of Texas at Austin; a lifelong progressive |
|
Democrat, Judith was extremely gratified at the election of the |
|
nation's first African American president; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of courage, grace, and generosity, she |
|
gave unselfishly to others, and she will long be remembered for |
|
her loving spirit and her enthusiasm for living each day to the |
|
fullest; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, |
|
and she leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by |
|
her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
|
condolences to the bereaved family of Judith Mary Pickle |
|
Lancaster; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Judith Lancaster. |
