R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, James Cook Jr. of the Killeen Independent School
  District has been named the 2022 Elementary Teacher of the Year by
  the Region 12 Education Service Center; and
         WHEREAS, The winners of these prestigious annual awards are
  first nominated for consideration by their fellow faculty members,
  and those who are later chosen as district Teacher of the Year
  become eligible for the regional honor; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Cook is in his sixth year with Killeen ISD and
  currently teaches fifth-grade math at Cedar Valley Elementary; he
  works to empower students to become free-thinking individuals
  capable of making informed decisions and to encourage them to
  become lifelong learners; in addition to traditional lessons, he
  has developed a unique curriculum teaching math that students can
  use outside the classroom, including financial literacy,
  budgeting, borrowing, and contract litigation; he is very
  supportive of his students and takes the time to attend their
  sporting events, performances, and church services; and
         WHEREAS, Before beginning his teaching career, Mr. Cook
  spent 22 years in the U.S. Army, where he rose to the rank of
  sergeant and earned the Meritorious Service Medal, Army
  Commendation Medal, and Army Achievement Medal; he holds a
  bachelor's degree from Troy University and he earned his master's
  degree in education in Louisiana; in all his endeavors, he enjoys
  the love and support of his wife and fellow Killeen ISD teacher,
  Keina Cook, and their three children; and
         WHEREAS, James Cook exemplifies the passion, determination,
  and innovative spirit that are the hallmarks of our best teachers,
  and he has set a standard of excellence to which all in his
  profession may aspire; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate James Cook
  Jr. on his selection as the 2022 Elementary Teacher of the Year by
  the Region 12 Education Service Center and extend to him sincere
  best wishes for continued success in his important work; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Cook as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
