SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Port of Brownsville in honor of its 85th
  anniversary, which was observed on May 16, 2021; and
         WHEREAS, The Port of Brownsville opened in 1936 and
  handled more than 250,000 tons of cargo during its first three
  years of operation; in 2020, the port moved a record-breaking
  11.6 million tons of cargo, primarily such commodities as refined
  petroleum products, steel, and wind energy components; and
         WHEREAS, The port supports 273 companies in diverse
  industries and provides jobs to some 4,000 employees; its
  infrastructure includes a three-million-bushel grain elevator
  and multimodal capabilities that merge land and sea
  transportation, and projects totalling $30 billion are currently
  underway; and
         WHEREAS, The Port of Brownsville is a premier shipbuilder
  for the Jones Act market and serves as a global ship-recycling
  hub, and versatile marine terminal operations at the port allow
  for the handling of a wide variety of cargoes; and
         WHEREAS, For 85 years, the Port of Brownsville has been a
  major contributor to the economic growth and prosperity of the
  Rio Grande Valley and the Lone Star State, and it is indeed
  fitting that the port be recognized on this important milestone
  in its history; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
  Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend all who
  contribute to the success of the Port of Brownsville as they
  reflect on the port's rich history and bright future; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of the port's 85th anniversary.
