SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Members of the Conner Harrington Republican Women
  of Plano have played an active role in their community and beyond
  for 50 years; and
         WHEREAS, Organized in the home of Gladys Harrington in
  1971, this group of concerned citizens had 16 original members,
  united by a vision of small government and individual liberty and
  responsibility; the club was named for the late Conner
  Harrington, who served as mayor of Plano and as a member of the
  State Republican Executive Committee; and
         WHEREAS, The Conner Harrington Republican Women began
  holding night meetings to allow working mothers to attend, and
  they conducted all business in an open format to ensure that
  everyone could participate; the club has received awards from the
  National and Texas Federations of Republican Women, and its
  members have gone on to win elected office and serve at the
  highest levels in the state federation and in the Republican
  Party of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Under the leadership of current president Janet
  Stovall, members of the Conner Harrington Republican Women are
  making a lasting difference through their grassroots political
  activism, and they may take justifiable pride in their rich
  history of civic engagement and their reputation for vitality,
  congeniality, and camaraderie; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 87th Texas Legislature,
  1st Called Session, hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of
  the founding of the Conner Harrington Republican Women and extend
  to its members sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas Senate.
