R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |
|
memories of the Reverend Dr. Aristide Brown Sr., who died on |
|
September 12, 2021, at the age of 91; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Fred and Queen Brown, Aristide Brown was |
|
born in New Orleans on July 18, 1930, and grew up in Batchelor, |
|
Louisiana, with seven siblings, Douglas, Lucile, Larence, |
|
Roseleone, Arthur, John, and Mildred; in 1953, he enlisted in the |
|
U.S. Army, and over the course of a military career that spanned two |
|
decades, he served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and earned the |
|
Bronze Star and five Good Conduct Medals; after retiring in 1973, he |
|
worked in the civil service and taught at St. Philip's College in |
|
San Antonio before becoming a full-time pastor; and |
|
WHEREAS, While still in the army, Dr. Brown received the call |
|
to preach, and he first served as a pastor at Fort Leonard Wood, |
|
Missouri, before becoming assistant pastor at St. Stephens Baptist |
|
Church in San Antonio; from 1972 to 2005, he was pastor of Tree |
|
Mount Temple Missionary Baptist Church in San Antonio, and in 1989, |
|
he earned a doctorate from Guadalupe Baptist Theological Seminary; |
|
in 2006, he became pastor of Anointed Rock Baptist Church and helped |
|
oversee the congregation's merger with his former church to become |
|
Anointed Greater Tree Mount Temple Missionary Baptist Church in |
|
2010; he ultimately retired from ministry in 2012; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Brown married the former Mary Jane Young in |
|
1953, and the couple shared a rewarding union that spanned 68 years; |
|
he was the proud father of five children, Gregory, Ray, Michael, |
|
Aristide, and the late Linda Queen Brown Hatch, and with the passing |
|
years, he welcomed into his family nine grandchildren, Robert, |
|
Natasha, Lauren, Ray, Tremond, Spencer, Mychael, Aristide, and |
|
Angelo, and numerous great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Aristide Brown lived a rich and purposeful life |
|
dedicated to his family, his faith, and his nation, and he leaves |
|
behind a legacy of service that will continue to inspire all those |
|
who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of the Reverend Dr. Aristide Brown Sr. and extend sincere |
|
condolences to the members of his family and to his many friends; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Aristide |
|
Brown. |
