R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Borderplex Alliance of El Paso has been honored |
|
with the 2021 Economic Development Organization of the Year Award |
|
from the International Economic Development Council; and |
|
WHEREAS, This notable accolade is given annually to recognize |
|
the top economic development organization from around the globe; |
|
with more than 5,000 members, the nonprofit IEDC is the largest |
|
entity of its kind and seeks to promote initiatives that increase |
|
economic prosperity and development in communities of all sizes and |
|
at every level of government; and |
|
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of chief executive officer Jon |
|
Barela, the Borderplex Alliance has helped create over 15,000 jobs |
|
since 2013 while bringing in more than $1.2 billion in investments |
|
to its service areas of El Paso, Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, and |
|
Las Cruces, New Mexico; it has also assisted in establishing 4,000 |
|
jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic; in 2020, the alliance was |
|
instrumental in recruiting an Amazon fulfillment center and a |
|
T.J. Maxx distribution center to El Paso, and it is developing a |
|
strategy for electric vehicle production while competing for major |
|
industrial projects in the aerospace and consumer electronics |
|
manufacturing industries; and |
|
WHEREAS, Among its services, Borderplex supports business |
|
operations by arranging consultations with government leaders and |
|
licensed professionals in the U.S. and Mexico; furthermore, the |
|
alliance plans and coordinates location scouting, conducts site |
|
selection analysis, and connects companies to vendors, suppliers, |
|
and contract manufacturers; it also provides businesses with the |
|
most current information related to climate, labor force, |
|
infrastructure, taxation, and other relevant issues; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Borderplex Alliance has helped contribute to the |
|
economic vitality of the Lone Star State, and its receipt of this |
|
prestigious recognition is a testament to its success and to the |
|
significant role it plays in the El Paso community and beyond; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the |
|
Borderplex Alliance on being named the 2021 Economic Development |
|
Organization of the Year by the International Economic Development |
|
Council and extend to all those associated with the alliance |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the Borderplex Alliance as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
