SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Jesusa F. Gomez, who died August 19, |
|
2021, at the age of 100; and |
|
WHEREAS, This treasured citizen was born in Yorktown, |
|
Texas, on August 12, 1921; she lost her mother at the young age of |
|
six, and she helped her father to raise her younger siblings; and |
|
WHEREAS, Jesusa shared a life of devotion with her |
|
husband, the late Valdemar Gomez; she raised their five children |
|
by loving example, and her 13 grandchildren and 19 |
|
great-grandchildren enriched her life immeasurably; and |
|
WHEREAS, Jesusa was admired by friends and loved ones for |
|
her intelligence and her many creative and artistic skills; she |
|
was an accomplished seamstress who made beautiful gowns for |
|
weddings and formal occasions, and she owned Jessie's Flower Shop |
|
for many years; she was also known as an amazing cook, and her |
|
family most especially enjoyed her capirotada, tamales, |
|
empanadas, and pan de polvo; and |
|
WHEREAS, An esteemed member of the community, Jesusa was |
|
politically active and was always ready to help a person in need; |
|
in 2003, she and Mr. Gomez were honored as the San Juan Man and |
|
Woman of the Year; and |
|
WHEREAS, Jesusa Gomez was a cherished matriarch and a |
|
woman of grace and charm; she was beloved by many, and she leaves |
|
behind memories that will long be cherished by all who were |
|
privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
|
condolences to the bereaved family of Jesusa F. Gomez; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Jesusa Gomez. |
