In Memory |

|
Charles Hicks |
|
|
WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with |
|
the passing of Charles Allen Hicks on September 14, 2021, at the |
|
age of 90; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Haskell and Era Hicks, Charles Hicks |
|
was born in Mills County on March 13, 1931, and he grew up with |
|
the companionship of three siblings, Walter, Gayle, and Annette; |
|
after graduating from Odessa High School, he joined the U.S. Air |
|
Force, working as an air police officer in downtown San Antonio |
|
and then in security services at Kelly Air Force Base before his |
|
discharge in 1959; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks was subsequently employed with |
|
McCullough Tool Company in Odessa until 1961, when he embarked on |
|
a long and rewarding career with the Cosden Refinery in Big |
|
Spring; over the course of his 27-year tenure, he helped operate |
|
the fluid catalytic cracking unit and served as a pump mechanic; |
|
following his retirement in 1988, he returned to Mills County and |
|
raised cattle on his ranch on the Colorado River; he was also |
|
active in his community as a member of the Mills County American |
|
Legion and Austin Avenue Church of Christ in Brownwood; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Hicks benefited from |
|
the love and support of his wife, LaQuita, with whom he shared a |
|
fulfilling marriage that spanned nearly seven decades; he took |
|
great pride in their children, Denise, Patricia, and Charla, and |
|
with the passing years, he had the pleasure of welcoming into his |
|
family 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his |
|
country, Charles Hicks earned the lasting respect and admiration |
|
of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of Charles Allen Hicks and extend sincere condolences to all who |
|
mourn his passing; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
this day, it do so in memory of Charles Hicks. |
