AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
Approximately 50,000 Texans have Parkinson's disease and unfortunately, that number continues to increase each year. Advocates across the state have been working tirelessly to increase general awareness about the disease and to encourage Texans to learn about the signs, symptoms, and treatment options for Parkinson's Disease. H.B. 53 would designate April as Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month.
H.B. 53 amends current law relating to the designation of April as Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.
SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS
SECTION 1. Amends Subchapter D, Chapter 662, Government Code, by adding Section 662.114, as follows:
Sec. 662.114. PARKINSON'S DISEASE AWARENESS MONTH. (a) Provides that April is Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month to increase awareness of Parkinson's disease and to encourage people to learn about the signs, symptoms, and treatment options for Parkinson's disease.
(b) Authorizes Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month to be regularly observed through appropriate programs and activities to increase awareness of Parkinson's disease.
SECTION 2.� Effective date: September 1, 2021.
