BILL ANALYSIS

H.B. 2768

By: King, Ken

County Affairs

Committee Report (Unamended)

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

In counties with small populations, it is sometimes difficult to fill all of the positions on various boards. Between appraisal districts, hospital districts, and school boards, among others, interested citizens would need to serve on multiple boards in order to satisfy current board member requirements. H.B. 2768 seeks to help alleviate this issue by decreasing the number of members of the Booker Hospital District's board of directors.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE IMPACT

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly create a criminal offense, increase the punishment for an existing criminal offense or category of offenses, or change the eligibility of a person for community supervision, parole, or mandatory supervision.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency, or institution.

ANALYSIS

H.B. 2768 amends the Special District Local Laws Code to decrease from seven to five the number of members of the Booker Hospital District's board of directors. The bill provides for the transition to the new number of members.
